As the holiday season approaches, it’s the best time to cozy up and read a good book. Here are some book recommendations from students at our school that are worth a read!

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a staple young adult crime novel. This book follows Pip, a high school senior who is keen on unravelling the case of Andie Bell. Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh in her senior year, at least that is the story everyone in town believes. As Pip starts to unravel dark secrets about the truth of the case, someone attempts to stop her, putting her life in danger.
2. Lightlark | Written By: Alex Aster

Lightlark is a young adult fantasy and romance novel. It takes place in a world where an island called Lightlark appears every 100 years. This island hosts the Centennial, a twisted game which helps the rulers of the six realms save their realm from curses. The novel revolves around Isla, one of the six rulers, she must win for her people and avoid love at all costs.
3. The Inheritance Games | Written By: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Inheritance Games is a well-known young adult mystery book, which revolves around Avery Grambs. Avery is an incredibly intelligent high school girl whose only goal is to get through high school. Yet, her vision changes as she is left a fortune from billionaire Tobias Hawthorne after his passing. Avery must live an entire year in Tobias’s estate which is full of secret tunnels, puzzles and unfortunately Tobias’s family. Avery and Tobias’s grandsons must find out why Mr. Hawthorne’s fortune is now Avery’s.
4. We Were Liars | Written By: E. Lockhart

We Were Liars is a psychological horror novel that seemingly starts off as a simple summer novel about a wealthy family. However, as the novel follows a group of four friends, lies and secrets ruin it all. Grade eleven student Sarah Paul says, “With the book’s twists and powerful ending, it’s a must-read for anyone who loves stories that take you on an emotional roller coaster”.
5. Better Than The Movies | Written By: Lynn Painter

Better Than The Movies is a wholesome romantic comedy that is an easy read. It follows Liz, a high school girl who is desperate for her crush Michael. She figures that befriending the boy next door, Wes, is her best chance at going to prom with Michael, and having her happily-ever-after with him. Yet, her scheme begins to crumble as she realizes there is another boy who has gotten her attention.
6. Small Favors | Written By: Erin A. Craig
Goodreads Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 Stars
Small Favors is a chilling fantasy novel that is inspired by the folktale Rumpelstiltskin. Grade eleven student, Joanna Joseph says “Small Favors was a book I couldn’t put down mostly because it surprised me. The fact that its cover made me assume that it would be a lighthearted book, but as soon as I opened it to find a creepy and unsettling thrilling story, I immediately got hooked. This book ultimately makes you question parts as it simultaneously gives light and dark vibes which made it one of my top favourite books.” This novel revolves around Ellerie who lives in a tight-knit community called Amity Falls. However, as the town’s supply is missing one day and as twisted events plague the town, it is believed that the mystic dark creatures that once roamed Amity Falls’ forest have returned. What will Ellerie do to stop them?
