From November 18 to 22, King International Council is hosting its annual spirit week, showcasing King’s diverse community!
The events hosted throughout the week are great opportunities for King students and staff to embrace their cultures and celebrate the diversity that makes King—and our city— so special. Here are the events you can look forward to this week:
Monday: Flag Day
To kick off the week, showcase your heritage by bringing a country flag to school, wearing its colours or sharing its story. Walk the halls and see the colourful and vibrant displays of pride!
Tuesday: Bake Sale
Visit KIC’s bake sale in front of the library at lunch and try treats from across the globe. This is your chance to explore different cultures through the beautiful and delicious art of cuisine, so don’t miss out!
Wednesday: Cultural Day
Cultural day is one of the most anticipated annual events at King, inviting students and staff at King to dress in their culture’s traditional attire. Cultural day is a powerful and beautiful reminder of the beauty of diversity. Head to the cafetorium at lunch to participate in the fashion show, where you can walk the stage with friends or in groups, take photos and showcase your culture’s clothing and flags!
Thursday: Karaoke
Sing along to your favourite tunes, global hits or songs from your cultural background, on Thursday in the cafetorium during KIC’s Karaoke lunch! This event is a perfect opportunity for students to connect and share their cultures through the universal language of music.
Friday: Bracelet-making workshop
To end the week, KIC is hosting a workshop to explore your creative side through bracelet-making! Visit the library at lunch to create beautiful jewellery and learn about designs from around the world. This is a great hands-on way to appreciate art from different cultures and have fun!
As much as this spirit week is about having fun, it is also a great chance to learn about the different stories and traditions from various cultures that shape people’s identities and experiences. It is a reminder that our differences do not divide, but instead enrich us, so mark your calendars and show your spirit by participating in the events this week!
