As schools gear up for another exciting academic year, one of the most anticipated events is the formation of the new student council. This year’s council is set to make a big impact with fresh members ready to represent their peers. The council aims to address key issues, organize fun events, and build a stronger school community. In this article, we will learn more about the individuals who make up this year’s student council!
Areeb Munir
President
What inspired Areeb to join KSC?
“I decided to join student council as president after years of being a general member and observing what it is to be a great leader. I wanted to use what I have learned over the past two years as junior and senior communications director to create a year that is centred around, community, inclusivity, fun, and full of engaging events that students are excited to attend. My inspiration is the wonderful students and teachers at our school who have shaped our school into the diverse community it is today. I hope to work with them to run new and innovative initiatives that everyone enjoys.”
Ahnaaf Hassan
Vice-President
What inspired Ahnaaf to join KSC?
“I joined KSC in grade 9 because I wanted to help run events around the school, and as I finished the year, I knew I wanted to be more heavily involved. This year is my third year in the council, and I plan to run events that students themselves have chosen, and get the majority of the school community involved in our events.”
Fahmida Mim
Secretary
If Fahmida could swap lives with any animal for a day, which one would she choose and what would she do?
“If I could swap lives with any animal, I’d probably choose a koala. Lately, with the temperature dropping and the days getting shorter, I find myself wanting to do nothing but sleep—especially in the mornings when it’s too cold to leave my warm bed. So as a koala, I would sleep all day, skip memorizing the Krebs Cycle, and relax while munching on leaves. It sounds like the perfect life!”
Sapna Rathee
Senior Student Senate Representative
What inspired Sapna to join KSC?
“Seeing how underrepresented our students feel in the TDSB inspired me to take action and make sure everyone’s concerns with how things are being run are heard. Putting forward concerns with urgency to senate allows me to make sure that the voices of RH King get proper representation in our board.”
Phillip Jeong
Junior Student Senate Representative
If Phillip could have any celebrity visit King, who would he pick?
“A celeb I would bring to RH King would be Chaewon.”
Ajfar Mahi
Senior Communication Director
If Mahi could swap lives with any animal for a day, which one would he choose and what would he do?
“If I could be an animal I’d be a panda, all I’d do all day is roll around and eat.”
Afra Nawar
Junior Communications Director
What inspired Afra to join the student council?
“I joined the student council because I wanted to actively contribute to my school’s community, enhance my leadership skills and help create a more engaging and supportive environment for everyone.”
Yanet Fitsum
Grade 12 Representative
If a student at King asked Yanet for Halloween costume recommendations, what would she suggest?
“At this point in my life, I have grown an obsession of sorts over The Lorax, the film, book, and character. So, in the case that a student asks me for halloween costume suggestions, The Lorax would be my top pick. I mean he is eco-friendly, a voice for the voiceless, and the cutest little thing ever!”
Shoptodipa Chowdhury
Grade 12 Representative
If a student at King asked Shoptodipa for Halloween costume recommendations, what would she suggest?
“If a student asked for costume ideas for halloween, I would suggest duo costumes such as ‘Rick & Morty’ , Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars from their famous song ‘Die with a Smile’ , Judy Hopps & Nick Wilde , Vincent van Gogh and his famous art piece ‘Starry Night’, and lastly, Tricky and Jake from subway surfers :)”
Saronica Routh
Grade 12 Representative
If Saronica could plan any new event for the school what would it be and why?
“A new event I want to plan for the school is an END OF THE YEAR CARNIVAL. The students at King were heavily impacted by COVID and unfortunately we lost traditions, experiences, milestone events and missed out on opportunities to socially bond with each other. As Grade 12 rep, I am motivated to bring FUN and NEW initatives to King. After stressful exams and intensive semesters, we deserve a chance to unwind and have fun! “Carnival at King” will be a perfect way to celebrate our hard work, and make lasting memories-especially for us Grade 12s, let’s make this the BEST gratuating year possible!”
Dulansa Epasinghe
Grade 11 Representative
If Dulansa could have any celebrity visit King, who would she pick?
“If I could have any celebrity visit King, it would be the Weeknd!”
Damien Perera
Grade 11 Representative
If Damien could swap lives with any animal for a day, which one would he choose and why?
“If I could swap lives with any animal for a day I would swap with a sloth since they’re chill.”
Amarie XuYe
Grade 10 Representative
If Amarie could have any celebrity visit King, who would she pick?
“I would love to have Tyler the Creator come to King, because he of how easygoing he is. From the interviews I’ve seen, he also has a really good message about doing what you like and just being yourself.”
Alexander Wong
Grade 10 Representative
What inspired Alexander to join KSC?
“What inspired me to join ksc was mainly the fact my sister was in ksc all four years at king from grade 9 rep to grade 10, 11 and then president. She pushed me to do more in the school and that’s what motivated me to join ksc.”
Lujain Ahmedin
Grade 9 Representative
If Lujain could swap lives with any animal for a day, which one would she choose and what would she do?
“If I could swap lives with an animal for a day I would swap lives with a bee so I can chase my brother around wherever he goes ( He’s extremely scared of them )”
Evangeline Koumarelas
Grade 9 Representative
What inspired Evangeline to join KSC?
“I was inspired to join KSC by my siblings. When I was younger, they would always talk about what was happening at school and all the events that were going on. I remember listening to them talk and thinking about how I wanted to be a part of running events, helping out around the school, and making my and many other people’s years at high school fun and memorable.”
