For countless years, R.H. King Academy has operated on a modified calendar schedule, unique from the one followed by every other high school under the Toronto District School Board (the Ministry-approved calendar). At King, students would start school a week earlier, allowing them to have a well-deserved Wellness Break in November.
Recently, a decision has been made to cancel the Wellness Break indefinitely. While King will continue to follow the modified calendar schedule for the rest of the 2024-25 school year, the following generations of new King students will never experience the benefits of this week-long break.
While the decision has already been made, King’s transition to the traditional calendar has not yet been approved by the Ministry. If the transition is approved by the Ministry in spring 2025, King’s Wellness Break will be abolished.
More updates are on the way regarding this rapidly developing situation.
