The Kingsley Voice Council is R.H. King’s official newspaper! Here are 5 reasons why you should apply and join our team this year.
Improve writing skills
In the council, contributors are expected to write an article every two-to-three weeks (although the executives are very understanding of personal circumstances!). By consistently writing for the council and by obtaining feedback from executive members, students not only familiarize themselves with the article format but also improve their writing skills!
Meet awesome people
Membership in the council allows students to have the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team. The environment is filled with hardworking and supportive individuals who all work together to ensure consistent publishing of the school newspaper! Not only does the Kingsley Voice work together out of necessity, but also through a collective enjoyment of writing, collaboration, and informing the school!
Impress universities and parents!
Every year, the Kingsley Voice publishes a high-quality newspaper edition. These newspapers highlight the best from the contributors and highlight the commitment and creativity of the members. Having work published in the newspaper not only makes students stand out but also gives them a chance to brag at family functions (and maybe even make them look better than the cousins that their parents always compare them to).
Gain valuable experience
Although members of the council have plenty of responsibilities, there are also plenty of great opportunities to learn! Some of these opportunities include stepping outside of one’s comfort zone and having to interview teachers, students outside of their grade or even local spokespeople, activists and celebrities! However, there’s more: contributors can volunteer to learn print paper layout (on Microsoft Publisher) as well as how to edit the newspaper’s website!
To have fun!!!
The most important reason of all, join to have fun! At the end of the day, this newspaper is about the students. Members can write about absolutely anything that interests them (as long as it is school-appropriate). Whether it’s movies, games, community events or general trends, the Kingsley Voice is happy to publish articles that resonate with students personally. The best articles are made out of authenticity and enthusiasm!
We accept all grades. No experience required, just bring your passion!
