After a hiatus of two decades, the girls’ lacrosse team has made a return to R.H. King’s grounds for the past two years, and their journey has been nothing short of inspiring.
With over half of the team being complete newcomers to the sport, their rapid rise to success speaks volumes about their dedication, determination, and unyielding spirit. Despite the initial challenges of learning a new sport from scratch, these athletes have shown remarkable progress, defying expectations and exceeding all odds.
Led by their passionate coaches and fueled by sheer determination, they have transformed into a cohesive unit, showcasing their skills and unwavering commitment on and off the field. When discussing the challenges of the newness of the sport, Sage Campbell, one of the starters on the team answered, “It’s a lot of taking leadership where it’s needed and supporting each other. Lacrosse has such specific techniques, but we’ve been working on our basic skills and learning how to use them on the field. Our team captain can only do so much when nearly the whole team is inexperienced, but it’s a team effort at the end of the day.”
One of the most impressive feats of this season is their recent victory, where they won 3-2 against Riverdale. This achievement not only highlights their talent but also underscores the power of perseverance and teamwork. Their ability to come together as a team and support each other through the ups and downs is representative of King sports in general, despite being a smaller and newer team. Even with their relative inexperience, the girls’ lacrosse team has risen through the ranks, currently holding the 7th position in the league standings. As the season progresses, our girls’ lacrosse team is gearing up for their upcoming playoff game, poised to continue their remarkable journey and make their mark on the league. Their passion, heart, and unwavering commitment are sure to make for an interesting game!
