6 lesser-known (but great) songs for Valentine’s Day

Everyone knows the popular Valentine’s Day favourites like Glue Song and Dark Red so why not bring 6 new songs into the mix this February 14th with this list?

It Had To Be You by Frank Sinatra

It Had To Be You is just one of the many romantic Frank Sinatra songs that are perfect for Valentine’s Day. The song was included in the soundtrack of When Harry Met Sally, one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time; no song could have better suited the moment when Harry realized his feelings for Sally on New Year’s Eve.

“For nobody else gave me a thrill

With all your faults, I love you still

It had to be you

Wonderful you

It had to be you.”

Silly Crush by Masaki Matsubara

A light-hearted but passionate song, Silly Crush is perfect for those who are too shy to confess their feelings. Matsubara perfectly encapsulates the jittery feelings many people feel around their crush.

“’Cause I just don’t have the nerve to meet you face to face

Since I’ll never find the words I’ll find a hiding place

I would dial your number then hang up the phone

I love you way too much to see that it’s just a silly crush.”

Fallen by Mýa

Mýa’s Fallen is a catchy R&B song that gets even better as the song progresses. In A Cinderella Story with Hillary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, the track played during the pair’s romantic first meeting at their homecoming dance.

“Fallen, head over heels

I’ve fallen, in love with you

I’ve fallen and I can’t get up, don’t wanna get up

Because of love.”

Northern Lights by Kennie

Kennie’s Northern Lights is possibly the best example of a love song. With lyrics straight from the heart, Kennie yearns to be with the one she loves.

“When we lean closer in our seats

There’s nothing but you and me

And you’re totally astronomical.”

Darling by LeeHi

Although LeeHi’s ONLY had gone viral a while back, Darling is undoubtedly just as good a song, if not better. The song’s use of instruments makes it feel like a lullaby and a power ballad at the same time.

“Baby, just call you a darling

Let me call you a darling

Let me fill in your hurtful empty space

Call you a darling.”

Je T’aime by JOY

In May of 2021, Red Velvet member, JOY, dropped a whimsical single, Je T’aime. 2 versions of the song, Korean and French, were originally released by Hey in 2001. JOY’s cover of the Korean version brought a different feel to the song through the addition of strings, flutes and her lovely voice.

“Toi et moi, éternellement.”
