Backyard Arts Festival with featured guest Nashid Chroma (2022)

The Backyard Arts Festival 2023: everything you need to know!

May 17, 2023

On Thursday May 18, Ms. Walter’s Arts Management class will be hosting King’s Backyard Arts Festival. It’s what all of King has been waiting for! The event will run from 10:30 to 1:30 and will feature performances and activities by King’s art classes, clubs and councils.

This festival is meant to celebrate the arts and recognize the school’s talented art community by sharing their valuable work, ideas and creativity. The theme for the festival this year is ‘70s, so students are encouraged to dress accordingly and spread the school spirit!

Ms. Shaw’s Band and Senior Strings class will be performing pieces on the stage outside. There will also be many more musical and dance performances by other King students.

Students will have a chance to personally get involved in the arts at King with the interactive hubs stations. King Music Council will be hosting a guitar hub in the backfield where students regardless of experience can learn how to play chords and even songs! King Visual Arts Council will be designing an interactive chalk mural on the school wall that people can contribute to. There will also be KVAC’s henna station where people can get their henna done or even do it for others!

An Art Gallery will be featured on the tennis court, including a collection of King students’ artwork. Students can feel free to visit the Arts Market as well, which will feature festival merch and student vendors. Backyard Arts Festival, themed t-shirts will be on sale for $15 and proceeds will go to Sick Kids Hospital. There will also be bracelets, earrings, necklaces, candles and more for $5 or less!

Along with countless fun activities to participate in, there will also be refreshments including bubble tea (Kung Fu Tea), baby blizzards, samosas and beef patties (#1 Jerk). The event has additionally set up a bake sale fundraiser to raise money for the prom festivities.

Last but not least, special guest, Global News anchor and King Alumni Miranda Anthistle will be at the Backyard Arts Festival this year. Do not miss out on this wonderful event and join the celebration of arts at King on May 18th!
