November 5, 2022

The transition from summer to fall has finally begun, and there’s no better way to kick off the season than with some fresh new outfits. While some like to keep up with the latest trends, others are looking to try something new. Take a look at today’s 2022 fall fashion must-haves and the inspiration behind the different styles.

Pinterest – An example for layering clothes during the cold rainy season

Autumn started off quite cold this year, hence layering is both an instinct and a must. Popular fashion influencers and designers worked with the idea of layering to result in a chic but comfortable and warm look. Depending on individual style, layering can go from classic blazers over elegant mini dresses, to a comfortable turtleneck under a favourite crewneck sweater with a leather jacket. Some of today’s seasonal layering essentials include blazers, jackets and trench coats, as well as sweaters and cardigans, sweater dresses and short skirts.

It is not surprising that some of the best fashion ideas and looks are actually based off and inspired by popular movies and TV show characters. This year, the most popular fall fashion icon is Rory Gilmore, portrayed by Alexis Bledel from the WB/CW television series Gilmore Girls. The series first aired in the year 2000, which already gives an insight of the style of Rory’s wardrobe. Rory’s style is described to be “dark academia” and “soft college girl,” Styles which are both popular now. Skip to present day, where the most fashion-forward people of 2022 are taking Rory’s love for cable-knit sweaters, turtlenecks, plaid mini skirts and flare jeans into their own remixed version of her outfits. The show also has an impact on the colour palettes seen this autumn. There are more muted, argyle, creamy and soft colours. Everyone’s colour palette and style are different, and that’s why characters like Rory create the opportunity to make fictional characters come to life with fashion, and a hint of each person’s own personality in recreated outfits.

Another major factor of a fall wardrobe is the aesthetic. This entirely depends on a person’s personal taste and what they like. Aesthetics are categorised based on things like colour, fabric or material and accessories. This autumn, it is common to see a mix of aesthetics based on the person themself. Many classic autumn outfits can easily change perspective and style due to a certain aesthetic of one’s choice. No matter what, a good look is made through confidence. The celebrities who walk the red carpet are always interviewed about the inspiration behind some of their most stunning looks.

Anyone can be given all the autumn essentials and pieces, but it is up to each person to put them together to create their own style.
