4 online events and contests to participate in today

January 22, 2021

There’s no doubt that COVID-19 has changed the way people engage with each other. Staying indoors has allowed students to have more time for themselves, so this is a great time to take part in community activities. The idea of partaking in an online event where it usually takes place in real-life is new for everyone, but it also offers a chance for students to participate more than they would without the online component.

1. Song Contest presented by Youth Musician Commission, affiliated with Roy Thomson Hall.

Submit your original music for a chance to win one of the top 3 prizes. All music genres, from all high school students, submit your application to [email protected] by March 22, 2021. Follow them on Instagram for updates @youth_musician_commission

2. New York Times Student Contest Calendar. Although there are many other New York Times student contests, here are three.

  • Personal Narrative Writing Contest

Write about an impactful and short meaningful experience that happened in your life.

  • Vocabulary Video Contest

Produce a 15-second video about the meaning of a word chosen from the New York Times “words of the day.”

  • LIVE: Review Contest

Review a video game, book, restaurant, album, movie, theatrical production, dance, TV show, art exhibition, or any other kind of work The Times critiques.
