December 14, 2020
During these times of uncertainty and trouble, everyone has their guilty pleasure. Whether it be diving into a pile of junk food or binge-watching a season of your favourite show, we all have our own ways of comfort. Recently, a spinoff of the infamous 2008 classic movie, Mamma Mia!, released their second movie Mamma Mia! 2: Here We Go Again on Netflix. The spinoff movie features our favourite returning stars, like Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, Christine Baranski as Tanya, Julie Walters as Rosie and Meryl Streep as Donna. It also incorporates new faces like Lily James as young Donna, Jessica Kennan Wynn as young Tanya, Alexa Davies as young Rosie, plus special guest Cher as Ruby Sheridan. Mamma Mia! 2 is the perfect comfort movie we all need.
Mamma Mia! 2 switches back and forth between the past and present of Donna’s life. Viewers get to see Donna as a young adult travelling the world and meeting Sophie’s three dads while discovering and moulding her own personality. Audiences get a better understanding of Donna’s relationship with her mother, and why she ended up moving to the beautiful Skopelos, Greece. In the present, Sophie and Sky are pregnant, as they are working through a long-distance relationship and also fixing up the hotel in honour of Donna.
Like in the previous movie, Mamma Mia! 2 is a musical, centred around songs by the famous 1970’s Swedish pop group, ABBA. In the spinoff, we can recognize some returning songs as well as new ones such as When I Kissed the Teacher, Waterloo, Andante Andante, and Fernando, amongst many more.
So if your looking for the perfect movie this holiday season, to take you somewhere warm and sunny, Mamma Mia! is definitely the right choice for you. You can stream Mamma Mia! 2 on Netflix with a subscription.
