Trends that have made comebacks in 2020

November 19, 2020

Obviously, 2020 hasn’t been the best year in general, and consequently, it hasn’t been the best year for fashion either. A lot of this year’s fashion has relied on trends from previous decades. For instance, this year’s fashion has been scattered with ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s throwbacks, and has incorporated classic and hip styles all in one.

DISCLAIMER: Something does not have to be a trend in order for you to wear it if you like something then put it on!

01.   Tie-dye and bleach overdye

It may not be the best trend out there, but here it is anyway. Let’s be real, when you saw it trending on TikTok you tried it yourself. What led TikTokers to DIY them was the ridiculous prices at urban outfitters for these tie-dye shirts. This is just one trend making a comeback this year. Tie-dye first rose to popularity in the 60s and then made its first comeback in the nineties. There are many ways to try out this trend.  Minimal pastel tie-dye is less busy, easy on the eyes but still has visual interest, while bleach tie-dye looks great on blues. If you didn’t get obsessed with tie-dye during quarantine, were you even on TikTok?

02.   Orange

This is one trend that the Kardashians have been big advocates for; OK Kim, ORANGE HAIR? Throughout the summer orange was paired with hot pink or nude tones. Coming into fall it has continued to be paired with nudes, but monochromes, as well as darker tones, have also been added into the mix. Orange is warm and energetic. The colour, in general, was a big trend in the ’70s and is definitely making a comeback. This trend will definitely carry on to 2021.

03.   Retro Windbreakers

Windbreakers are definitely one of the biggest trends of 2020.  They are essential in any closet! Not only are they stylish but they are also lightweight and perfect for fall weather. They protect you from light showers and chilling winds. You can pull them off fitted or oversized and there’s a variety of styles to choose from. They give off a sporty ’90s vibe. Thrifting windbreakers are the way to go! Whatever you find will always be unique. One of the best spots for windbreakers is VINTAGE on Queens Street, they have a large variety of cool retro windbreakers.

I couldn’t have written such an eloquent article myself. As mentioned in another comment, the way you blended each style with the present and the past brings life to each style. I can’t lie, I participated in each style myself and I loved each one. This article made me love the styles that much more. As a male, fashion is such a foundation to each and every human’s individuality and personality. I believe these styles don’t have a gender, and that’s the beauty of fashion. I believe each style of fashion is unique and they all represent something, it would have been amazing to see you explain how each style listed in this article represents the people that use the style. Overall, this was an article that is well rounded and well expressed. A memorable one for sure!

Stunning! Such a masterfully crafted article! I have to admit, the way you blended the prevalence of each style with their history and origin is such a wonderful way of presenting them! I was captivated by the Tie-Dye one in particular. At one point this year, everyone was rushing to their nearest craft stores to create their own tie-dye clothes, myself included! Didn’t work out very well but it makes me appreciate the style so much more! My favourite thing about this brilliant article is the way each style has withstood the test of time, becoming popular every couple decades! Such a cool thing to think about! This is truly a well-spoken article and I enjoyed reading every sentence.
