Introducing your 2020 student council members: grade nine reps

An exclusive on this year's KSC grade nine representatives

November 20, 2020

After two long days of voting, the results of this year’s student council elections are finally in! On behalf of the Kingsley Voice Council, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and sincerely congratulate all the candidates who put themselves out there to run for a position on KSC.

The election results will be presented in five chapters that will be posted incrementally throughout the day. The winners of the grade nine representatives will be reported on in this chapter of the King Student Council elections coverage.

After a long wait, we finally have our grade nine representatives for this year! Congratulations on your win, Maggie Lecker and Tatyana Wong!

The Kingsley Voice was able to reach out to both representatives and ask them a few questions about why they ran for the position and what they hope to accomplish.

Maggie Lecker

Maggie Lecker is a grade nine student at R.H. King Academy, who was recently elected as one of the grade nine representatives.

Grade representatives are expected to gather views from their peers regarding various aspects of the school climate. As student council members, they will also be supporting all student council initiatives.

Lecker is a hard-working, passionate student who ran for this position to “provide a platform based on student needs.” She acknowledges the tough time students are going through and hopes to be a helping hand. “I know that this year is a unique situation and believe that we would have to factor all the stress of Covid into our plan.” She further adds, “I felt that if I run, I could possibly become an advocate for the students.”

In terms of what she hopes to accomplish, Lecker says, “I would make sure that I am easily approachable for the students.”

Lecker also aims to provide open communication to the student body. “I want to hear from students about what they need during this time and bring attention to their voices. I look forward to working with the other council members to identify ways to raise school spirit and create a better school community.”

Tatyana Wong

Grade nine student Tatyana Wong was also elected to fulfill the responsibility of a grade nine representative.

When asked about why she ran for this position, Wong responded “I ran for grade nine rep because it’s the first step to making a change at R.H. King and making the year better for my fellow grade nines!”

Wong is a hard-working student who wants to bring a positive change to R.H. King Academy. As a grade nine representative, Wong hopes to “get involved and plan as many more possible school activities as possible and make this year a great one.”

We are very excited to see what both representatives bring to the table and wish both of them the best of luck for their new journey!
