It’s that time of the year again—with Halloween almost around the corner, King Library Council is going to be leading ghost tours around the school’s spookiest areas, only for grade niners during their C period class if their teacher has signed them up for this thrilling once-in-a-high-school-time experience.
Every year, the librarian, Mr. Wilkinson, has traditionally arranged this special aspect of Halloween that only King freshmen get to experience. Members of the library council lead each class in pairs, ensuring that the participating students do not disrupt the rest of the school while still enjoying their horrifying tour to the fullest. The ghost tour includes seven stations located at different parts of the building, each having its own horror backstory. While KLC members escort their assigned group of students to the different stations, they narrate scary stories associated with that particular station, which are real-life incidents experienced by former as well as many present-day King staff and students.
Kreesha Rahman, a grade 11 student, expresses how fascinated she was as a freshman to learn about this not-so-known spooky side of King! “It was a very unexpected experience because I wasn’t aware of the fact that our school was ‘haunted’ before coming here in grade nine. It was really fun learning about the different ghost stories around the school. Undeniably, the ‘surprise’ at the last station was quite frightening and made the experience unforgettable!” Kressha recalls.
Grade 10 student Manha Ashraf seems to have a similar opinion regarding how amazed she was to discover this aspect of the school. She says, “In my experience, the ghost tour was a fun and suspenseful time. Learning more about King’s history really changed how I view it, and it was thrilling to know how we’re the most haunted school in the district.”
Another grade 11 student, Tahseen Mosharraf, recounts the tour as an entertaining highlight from his first year of high school. “I remember the tour being a fun and spooky experience. I enjoyed exploring parts of the school I’d never seen before and hearing some of the creepy stories about our school’s past. It was an entertaining event in my first year that definitely made our school feel more mysterious!” states Tahseen.
Dean Milligan, who is a senior student this year, summarizes the importance of these fun Halloween-spirited tours. “The ghost tours are a very important part of King, because not only do they give grade nine students insight into their school’s rich history, but they’re also a very fun and super memorable event to take part in with some friends. I’m very glad it exists because so much has happened at this school that it would be a shame to let all these stories go to waste,” says Dean.
Throughout this week, even if you’re not a grade nine student taking part in these ghost tours, watch out for the KLC members haunting the hallways in their spooky attire and support the school’s Halloween spirit!
